The Sky Rewrites Itself

Some days announce exactly what they intend to be. Today wasn't one of them.

I stepped outside early this morning expecting another endless stretch of blue. The day had begun quietly, with barely a cloud worth following. For a while, I wondered if today's journal entry might simply be about stillness.



Then, sometime around midmorning, the atmosphere decided otherwise.

Towering cumulus began climbing into the sky almost without warning. Within minutes, the empty blue had become a landscape of growing towers, brilliant white against a deep summer sky. Every few minutes they seemed larger than before, stretching higher and casting longer shadows beneath themselves.



By early afternoon, darker clouds drifted overhead while islands of blue refused to surrender completely. Looking up felt like watching two different skies negotiate with one another. Bright summer sunshine lingered just beyond the edge of heavier cloud cover, neither side quite willing to win.



As evening approached, the mood softened. The heavier clouds slowly loosened their grip, revealing wider patches of blue once again. High, delicate streaks spread across the sky while the last of the towering clouds settled into quieter shapes. It wasn't the dramatic ending that yesterday delivered, but perhaps that made it more interesting. Not every story ends with thunder. Some simply drift toward calm.



Before the day closed, a single jet crossed overhead, leaving a thin white line that slowly faded into the evening sky. For a brief moment, it looked as though someone had drawn one final brushstroke across today's canvas.



Sometimes the most memorable skies aren't the loudest ones. They're the ones that spend the entire day changing their mind.

The sky was covered by a thick gray cloud deck stretching from horizon to horizon. There were no dramatic thunderheads yet, no towering columns of cloud announcing an approaching storm.   Homeward Beneath a Thousand Skies June 26, 2026 | Georgia to Missouri The day began before sunrise as we pulled away from Cumming, Georgia, while much of the world was still asleep. By the time we reached the mountains of eastern Tennessee, dawn had quietly arrived. Low clouds wrapped themselves around the ridges, drifting through the trees like slow-moving rivers of mist. The mountains seemed to wake one layer at a time, revealing just enough of themselves before disappearing again behind the fog. For a while, it felt less like driving through the mountains and more like driving through the clouds themselves.   June 12, 2026 | 12:45 PM CDT Location: Raytown, Missouri Observation: A Sky Washed Clean Sky Conditions Today's sky could not be more different from yesterday's. Where towering thunderstorms and rain shafts dominated the horizon just twenty-four hours ago, only a vast expanse of uninterrupted blue remains. The atmosphere appears remarkably clear, with no visible cloud cover in the immediate area. The sun shines brightly overhead, casting sharp rays across the deep blue sky. The air feels calmer, as if the storms of yesterday swept the atmosphere clean and left behind a fresh canvas. Cloud Notes Sometimes the most interesting observation is the absence of clouds.
