June 22, 2026 | A Day Beneath Changing Skies

Today's journey carried us from Missouri to Georgia, and the sky seemed determined to travel with us every mile of the way.

The morning began near Arrow Rock beneath a blanket of gray clouds. The sky felt heavy but calm, stretching across the horizon in soft layers of overcast. The roads were quiet, the landscape green from recent rains, and the day ahead still unwritten.

As we crossed the Missouri River, the water reflected the muted light from above. Low clouds hung over the river valley, blending the horizon into shades of gray and blue. It felt like a fitting beginning for a weather-watching road trip.

By the time we reached Tennessee, the atmosphere had become noticeably more active. The cloud deck grew darker and more textured, with pockets of brighter sky appearing between growing towers of cloud. The farther south we traveled, the more dramatic the sky became.

Near the Tennessee River, the landscape transformed. Forested hills rose beside the water while storm clouds gathered overhead. Mist clung to the mountainsides, and rain could be seen falling in the distance. The clouds seemed to pour over the ridges like a slow-moving waterfall.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came near Chattanooga. We watched the edge of a storm approach from the highway. At first it seemed distant, hanging over the hills ahead. Then, almost without warning, it swept over us. The boundary between clear air and rain crossed the road in seconds. The sky darkened, the rain arrived, and we found ourselves driving beneath the storm we had been watching only moments before.

By evening, we finally arrived in Georgia.

The day ended beneath a sky entirely different from the one that greeted us in Missouri. The storms had moved on, leaving behind layers of silver and gold clouds illuminated by the setting sun. The horizon glowed softly while the last light of the day filtered through the cloud deck above.

From overcast morning skies in Missouri, to storm-wrapped mountains in Tennessee, to a peaceful Georgia sunset, today's weather told the story of the journey as clearly as the road itself.

Sometimes the destination is memorable.

Sometimes it's the sky along the way.
