June 13, 2026 | A Sky in Transition

Location: Raytown and Lee's Summit, Missouri

Today began beneath a restless canopy of gray clouds as Missouri entered a Level 3 of 5 severe weather risk day. Early morning observations revealed a mixture of stratocumulus and developing cloud layers drifting overhead, with occasional patches of blue still visible between them.

As the morning progressed, the atmosphere became increasingly active. The cloud cover thickened, blue sky openings became less frequent, and light drizzle began to fall shortly before 9:40 AM. While no severe weather was present locally, the sky carried a distinct sense of anticipation.

Venturing out across Raytown and Lee's Summit revealed an atmosphere in constant motion. Ragged cloud fragments drifted beneath a broader overcast, while layers of moisture and turbulence became increasingly visible. Every stop offered a different perspective as the cloud field evolved overhead.

By late morning, the sky had transformed into a remarkable display of texture and movement. Layer upon layer of clouds stretched across the horizon, creating wave-like formations that resembled an ocean suspended above the landscape. The atmosphere appeared energized, with cloud structures constantly shifting and reorganizing themselves.

Though the day had not yet delivered its forecasted storms, the sky was already telling the story of a changing atmosphere. From quiet morning clouds to a dramatic ceiling of rippled gray formations, the progression served as a reminder that weather often begins long before the first thunder is heard.

"Some days the weather arrives with thunder. Other days it announces itself more quietly, through shifting clouds, soft drizzle, and a sky that cannot seem to sit still."
